Some music just gets to you.

I first heard Spinozo in 2019. He had released a song he had recorded and mixed at home: raw, imperfect and completely DIY. But it stayed with me. Working on In acque sconosciute meant shaping his music and, at the same time, something I deeply believe in: music should make you feel something.

Eleven musicians. One room.

The challenge started before the mix: recording eleven musicians playing together while preserving both their interaction and enough quality and control over each individual recording. The same idea guided the mix: keep the feeling of a real ensemble.

Renegade and Flash Back are new versions of songs originally recorded in the 1980s. The work combined restoration of the original material, new recordings, editing and mixing, without losing the character of the original versions.

I was able to be deeply involved in the production, experimenting with arrangements, sounds and timbres without forcing the music into a predefined direction. The goal wasn’t to make everything perfect. It was to make it feel authentic.

Blastede was made with a direct approach: capture the performances, trust the musicians and avoid polishing things until the energy that made the songs work disappears. Sometimes quality means knowing what doesn’t need fixing.
